More affordable homes coming to Bristol

Alliance Homes is working together with private developer, Newland Homes, to create eight affordable apartments at the Old Pump House development on Bedminster Down.

The new affordable homes will comprise eight apartments, with six one-bedroom apartments for social rent and a further two apartments for Shared Ownership. The two Shared Ownership apartments will each have two bedrooms and one will be wheelchair accessible.

Alliance’s Director of Investment Iain Lock commented: “We’re really excited to be helping to turn this once-industrial site into attractive quality homes that will enhance the local community.

“It’s great to be providing more homes in Bristol and we’re looking for other opportunities so we can keep building and meet our ambitious plans to develop 2,000 new affordable homes in the next 10 years.”

Marcus Evans, Sales and Marketing Director at Newland Homes, commented: “The Old Pump House development offers stylish living in an up and coming part of Bristol. We’re pleased to be working with Alliance Homes on this attractive site. Alliance is a local affordable housing provider with a great reputation for well-managed properties.”

Construction work has already started on the apartments, which will be part of a larger redevelopment of Bristol Water’s former pump house and vehicle depot in Bedminster Down by Newland Homes. Building work is expected to be finished in August this year.

Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol, said: “As a council we have ambitious housing targets, but these can only be reached by working with a wide range of partners. Quality affordable homes are essential to building an inclusive city, which is why building homes, and supporting others to build, remains a key focus for us.

“Providing affordable homes has become more important than ever as we look to rebuild and reimagine the city following the pandemic. We need to create communities where people can come together and provide much-needed support for each other.”
