South Gloucestershire councillors tour Alliance Homes’ new housing in Brentry
Members of South Gloucestershire Executive Committee enjoyed a tour of Alliance Homes’ new 100% affordable housing scheme in Brentry, as the last of the homes on the site near completion.
During the tour, councillors were shown a three-bedroom house and a two-bedroom apartment by Alliance’s Chief Operating Officer Iain Lock and Head of Development Sarah McQuatt. Each property has been designed with energy efficiency measures to help lower heating bills for Alliance customers, including air source heat pumps, solar panels and high levels of insulation.

Iain Lock said: “It was great to welcome representatives from South Gloucestershire Council’s Executive Committee to Charlton Gate, where Alliance Homes is delivering 29 much-needed new homes in partnership with developer Woodstock. We appreciated this opportunity to demonstrate the quality of the homes and our commitment to delivering new affordable housing.
“This scheme has been made possible thanks to the strong partnership working and collaboration between Alliance Homes and South Gloucestershire Council. By working together we’ve been able to identify how best to deliver the site, ensuring it’s a success and that it also adds value to the local community.”
Councillor John O’Neil commented: “It was a pleasure to visit the Charlton Gate development, where Alliance have produced well-designed excellent homes with an A rated energy performance certificate.
“I am sure that residents will be excited to have one of these safe, secure, energy-efficient homes where the design and setting will encourage the community to thrive”.

One of the new residents in this community of social rent and Shared Ownership homes is Jess Crowley and her family. They moved into a house that she bought with her partner Curtis through the part-buy, part-rent Shared Ownership scheme.
“With our second child on the way, we were renting a small two-bed house that just wasn’t suitable,” said Jess. “We knew we couldn’t afford to buy outright so Shared Ownership was perfect for us.
“We moved in three months ago and life is much better now, and we’re happier. My son loves the outdoors, and he’s got a large garden to play in where I know he’s safe. The house has been just what we needed.”
Homes for rent at Charlton Gate were made available to people on the local housing list through South Gloucestershire Council's choice-based lettings scheme, HomeChoice.
