National Apprenticeship Week 2019 - Jamie's story

This week we’re supporting National Apprenticeship Week (4 to 8 March 2019).

This annual celebration of apprenticeships brings the whole apprenticeship community together to celebrate the impact of apprenticeships on individuals and employers just like us.

Today we hear from Jamie Dullehan, one of our Lead Operatives, who started with us as an apprentice at the age of 17.

“I found out about the opportunity with Alliance through an organisation that supports young people find work and skills-based learning. Since starting, I’ve gained an abundance of knowledge and confidence, and feel settled in a good job.

“Passing my gas exams was the biggest challenge! But day-to-day I complete all kinds of jobs from boiler installations to gas repairs and servicing, and lots of types of plumbing repairs in properties.

“I now have all of the qualifications and experience that, if I were an employer, I would want to see to employ someone in my trade.

“If anyone I knew was interested in an apprenticeship, I’d tell them to definitely take the opportunity if they’re lucky enough to be offered one. They’re a fantastic way to learn and achieve a career you’re interested in. I now have a skill for life which should mean I’m never out of work.”
