Construction begins on eight new affordable homes in Yatton

24 Jul 2025

Work is officially underway on the development of eight much-needed affordable homes at Alliance Homes’ site on Marsh Road, Yatton.

West of England housing association, Alliance Homes, have begun their project to replace two vacant homes and nine garages with a new street of six modern houses and two maisonettes. The new homes will be available at affordable and social rent levels. Once finished, this development will make better use of the land, help regenerate the area, and provide high-quality, energy-efficient homes for local people in housing need.

Each home is being built to achieve an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of A, incorporating sustainable features such as solar panels, high-grade insulation, electric heating systems, and electric vehicle charging points. These features are designed to reduce energy bills and future-proof the homes.

To mark the start of construction, representatives from Alliance Homes and contractor Fisher and Dean gathered on site. They were joined by Yatton councillors Steve Bridger and Wendy Griggs.

Alliance Homes Service Director for New Homes, Sarah McQuatt, said:
“At Alliance, we want to play our part in tackling the housing crisis in our region. Our goal to deliver 2,000 new affordable homes by 2033 will help more local people and families access secure, well-built homes.

“This development in Yatton shows how working together with the local authority, partners, and the community, can breathe new life into underused sites. We’re not only delivering six high-quality affordable homes but also helping to improve the local area for everyone who lives here.”

The project has been made possible through close collaboration with North Somerset Council and funding support from Homes England.

Yatton councillor, Steve Bridger commented: “I look forward to returning in a few months with Wendy, to welcome the first residents into their new homes.”
