Construction starts on 32 affordable homes at Valley Oaks in Winscombe

12/03/2026

Construction is now officially underway at the Valley Oaks development in Winscombe, where much-needed new affordable homes will be delivered for local people.

The development is a partnership between West of England housing association Alliance Homes and Woodstock Homes, and will provide 68 new homes in total, with 32 of them affordable.

Funded through a combination of Alliance Homes finance and Homes England grant, the affordable homes have been carefully designed to meet the needs of the local community. The development will offer a range of one- to four-bedroom properties, available through shared ownership, social rent, and affordable rent.

All homes at Valley Oaks will achieve an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) A rating, helping to reduce running costs for Alliance customers. Each property will include a range of low-carbon, energy-efficient features, such as solar panels and air source heat pumps, as well as electric vehicle charging points.

To mark the start of construction, representatives from Alliance Homes, Woodstock Homes, and North Somerset Council attended the site. They included: Alliance Homes Chair, Simon MacSorley, Alliance Homes New Homes Manager, Helen Napierski, North Somerset Councillor Joe Tristram, Woodstock Homes Managing Director, James Hutchinson, and Woodstock Homes Operations Director, Wayne Cole.

Alliance Homes Chair, Simon MacSorley, said: “We’re delighted to see construction start at Valley Oaks. This development is made possible through a strong partnership between Alliance Homes, Woodstock Homes, and North Somerset Council, all united by our common ambition to deliver sustainable, affordable housing that meets the needs of current and future residents.”

Councillor for Banwell and Winscombe, Joe Tristram, commented: “I am really pleased to see the delivery of new affordable homes moving forward. These much-needed properties will give local families the opportunity to put down roots and build their futures within our community. This development is an example of what can be achieved through effective collaboration that seeks to deliver high quality, sustainable homes for those who need them most.”

Woodstock Homes Managing Director, James Hutchinson, added: “We’re proud to continue our partnership with Alliance Homes on the Valley Oaks development. At Woodstock Homes, we are focused on delivering well-designed, low-carbon homes within thriving communities, and Valley Oaks is a strong example of that approach. The development will also provide much-needed affordable homes for local people.

“We look forward to working closely with our partners as the scheme progresses and to welcoming the first residents to their new homes later this year.”

Construction is progressing well, with the first homes expected to be ready by winter this year.

Homes for social and affordable rent will be allocated through North Somerset Council’s HomeChoice lettings scheme. To buy a shared ownership home at Valley Oaks, register your interest on the Alliance Homes sales website.
