Two new developments will bring 81 affordable homes to North Somerset

23/10/2025

Alliance Homes has secured three development sites that will deliver 81 much-needed affordable homes across North Somerset by 2027, as part of a wider programme of new housing projects in the area.

The first two developments at Mead Fields in Locking, phases 5b and 4a, are located next to each other and represent the next step in transforming the former RAF base in Weston-super-Mare.

Phase 5b is being developed in partnership with Chippenham-based Backhouse Housing. Alliance Homes will deliver 11 new homes, comprising a mix of two and three-bedroom houses, along with a one-bedroom flat.

Next door, phase 4a will deliver 12 new homes in collaboration with Wain Homes. These will feature a mix of maisonettes, as well as two, three, and four-bedroom houses.

Construction is already underway at both sites. Completion at 5b is expected between January and March next year, while site 4a is scheduled to be finished in summer 2027. Homes at both sites will be available for both shared ownership and affordable rent.

The second development will be delivered through the brownfield regeneration of the former Oxford Instruments site in Yatton. The site was acquired with support from Homes England grant funding and will be developed in partnership with Woodstock Homes, a developer with a great relationship with Alliance Homes after having worked with the Alliance Homes on the Charlton Gate development in Brentry.

Plans for this site include 58 new homes, offering a mix of shared ownership and social rent. A planning application was recently submitted. Subject to approval, construction is anticipated to begin in spring or summer next year.

Alliance Homes New Business Manager, Helen Napierski, said: “These two new developments show our unwavering commitment to delivering the high-quality affordable homes that people and families across our communities desperately need. We’re on track to achieve our ambition of building 2,000 new homes by 2033, with nearly 800 already completed.”
