We want our customers to feel connected and proud of where they live, and that means making sure our communities are clean, tidy and safe.
Our team of Community Environment Officers maintain outdoor shared spaces. They regular inspect communal bin stores, green spaces and shared areas across our neighbourhoods. They also work closely with local authorities to report and respond to misuse and issues around fly-tipping and vandalism.
The team is responsible for:
- Carrying out environment health and safety checks
- Inspecting bin stores and investigating incidents of fly tipping on our land
- Responding to reports of an untidy garden within 5 working days
- Investigating reports of dog fouling within communal areas
- Enforcement of removal of items within communal areas that pose a fire risk
- Investigation of vehicles that have been abandoned on our land.
In 2024/205, we carried out 874 health and safety inspections in communal areas, 9,918 bin store checks, and responded to 160 cases of messy gardens.
Keeping you safe
In addition, our team and contractors regularly undertake inspections and service equipment such as fire alarm systems, lifts, emergency lighting and smoke detectors. We also carry out regular inspections and water safety testing of shared water systems in blocks.
If you live in a block with communal areas, we also employ specialists to complete fire risk assessments on a regular basis to identify any fire hazards and to advise us on any action we may need to take to keep our blocks safe.

We all can play a part in keeping our neighbourhoods clean, tidy and safe. Here are a few simple ways you can make a difference:
Dispose of waste and recycling correctly, and don’t leave rubbish or unwanted items such as sofas, mattresses, TVs etc beside or within communal bin areas.
If you spot fly-tipping or misuse, report it right away. Visit our fly-tipping webpage for more information and advice
Small actions can make a big difference, whether that’s picking up after your pets or putting rubbish that’s not yours in the bin.
