Role of Executive Board members

Alliance has two Executive Board members, the Chief Executive Officer (Louise Swain) and Chief Finance Officer (Jon McMahon). Executive Board members are full-time employees who also serve as members of the Board, carrying out the same statutory duties as all other Board members, acting with reasonable skill, care and diligence.

Alongside all other Board members, Executive Board members must uphold the principles of the NHF Code of Governance: accountability, integrity, openness and inclusion. They share collective responsibility for the organisation's strategy, risk management, and overall governance.

In line with best practice, Executive Board members are always in the minority on the Board and at Board meetings. This ensures independent oversight and strong control and assurance.

To maintain robust governance, Executive Board members cannot serve as Chair or Senior Independent Director, nor can they sit on key Board committees, such as the Audit and Risk Committee or Remuneration Committee.

Company Membership

Company membership gives individuals a formal connection to Alliance Homes. Members don't receive financial returns as they might in for-profit organisations, but they do have a say in how the organisation is run. For example, they can vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and help shape the future of the organisation.

Our Company Membership Policy explains who can become a shareholding member of Alliance Homes. Membership is open to eligible tenants, leaseholders, independent board members, and people who live or work in North Somerset and support our goals. To apply, you’ll need to meet the criteria and agree to follow our rules and policies. Applications are reviewed by the Company Secretary, with final approval from the Board. If accepted, your name will be added to our membership register. Membership is reviewed annually.

If you would like to apply an application form can be found at the bottom of the page.
