We are progressing plans to demolish Alexandra House and Hillsborough House in Weston-super-Mare.
Both buildings are now empty, and demolition works will begin in summer 2026. This page provides the latest information about what is happening, when, and what to expect.
Background
In 2025, following detailed surveys and expert advice, we made the decision to demolish Alexandra House and Hillsborough House.
Both buildings are over 60 years old and would require significant investment to bring them up to modern standards. Even with this investment, they would not provide the quality of homes we want for our customers in the long term.
This was not a decision we took lightly. Since then, we have been working closely with customers to support them to move into new homes. All households have now been successfully rehoused, and both buildings have been empty since March 2026.
Demolition works
We have appointed Weaver Demolition Ltd to carry out the demolition works.
The works will take place in phases and will be carefully managed to ensure safety and reduce disruption as much as possible.
On Tuesday 23 June 2026, local residents had the opportunity to meet the contractor carrying out demolition works on behalf of Alliance Homes at a community drop-in event held at Bournville Community Hub on St Andrew’s Parade between 3pm and 7pm.
Thank you to everyone who came along to meet the site manager and ask questions. Below you can find a summary of the main points raised by residents and our responses.

You can find more details in the section below "How we are reducing disruption".
Following detailed surveys and careful consideration, we made the decision to demolish Alexandra House and Hillsborough House as part of our long-term plans.
Both buildings are over 60 years old and would require significant investment to bring them up to modern standards. Even with that investment, they would not provide the quality of homes we want for our customers in the long term.
All customers living at Alexandra House and Hillsborough House have been supported by Alliance Homes to move into suitable alternative homes, based on their needs and preferences.
Both buildings have now been empty since March 2026.
At Hillsborough House, proposals have been submitted for around 36 new affordable homes, including the current site and the former Bournville Infant School site. These are currently going through the planning process, with a decision expected later this year.
You can find more information about these proposals here: Selworthy Road, Weston-super-Mare.
