Excessive and repeated loud noise can make daily life difficult, especially if you feel the behaviour is targeted.
However, it’s important to remember that noise from neighbours isn’t always considered anti-social behaviour. Occasional loud music, barking dogs, banging doors, and DIY activities are all part of everyday living.
Everyday noise
Noise from gardens, outdoor activities, and general household routines is a normal part of life. We understand that differences in lifestyle can sometimes cause frustration. If this happens, there are steps you can take to reduce the impact.
What you can do
The first and often the best step is to speak to your neighbour. They may not realise the noise is causing a problem. A friendly conversation can often help resolve things.
If you don’t feel comfortable approaching your neighbour directly, you can download our ‘Dear Neighbour’ card to help start the conversation.
If things don't improve
If the noise continues and you feel the behaviour is targeted, keep a record of what’s happening. Note the type of noise, how often it occurs, and how it affects you over a period of time (recommended two weeks). This helps us understand your report more clearly.
To keep a log of noise disturbances, you can:
Download ‘The Noise App’. This is a quick and easy way to report noise issues directly to us. Search for “The Noise App” in your app store or use the links below:
Alternatively, you can download our ‘Diary Sheet’. Fill it in with the time, date, and type of disturbance, then share it with us.
